Unable to find a store-bought solution that would serve as a barrier between my 23-month old daughter and the tangle of cords and power strips living under my desk, I repurposed a drawing board as a false wall. It conceals well enough that she no longer has any interest in “exploring” under the desk.

Once I’m done using a product, wrapping the cord to put it away is somewhat therapeutic (Yay! I’m done ironing/vacuuming/watering and I can go on with my life), but unwinding the cord has the opposite effect; it feels like a lot of work AND it reminds me of the drudgery of the task at hand. So I appreciate that my vacuum cleaner has a cord lever that when pulled down, releases the cord for easy unwinding.

Recognizing that consumers wrap their cord around the iron when not in use, this manufacturer put ridges along the side of the iron to help “guide” and secure the cord. As you can see in the picture, the ridges need to be bigger and deeper to properly work.
