San Francisco Community Activism

I found this this flyer, petition and note from a neighbor in my mail slot. Parking in this city is such an emotional issue, that it provoked the first ever contact with this neighbor (unknown for 2.5 years) and he entrusted us with his personal contact information, inviting a discussion on this. The petition asks the city to mandate residents pay $104/year for a permit to park near our houses (currently parking is free for us- this would change our blocks to a permit required zone). This is in anticipation of parking meters being installed on nearby streets that incentivize commuter parking in front of our homes to avoid the adjacent meters. Neighbors fear their own on-street parking will disappear.
As we increasingly become estranged from our neighbors by technology, uniting against common enemies (the City, non-neighborhood residents) in the Parking War brings a return to in-person community outreach and traditional civic action...and yes, I did call Leo!
