Seattle Ratchet Cable clamp
Submitted by Matt Conway
Problem:
When carrying around a macbook pro power supply, sometimes I just need to wrap things up fast. I know that with care and some time, I can wrap the fat part of the cord around the brick in one direction and keep it in place with the thin cord but that's a bit fussy and I'm impatient. Trying to stow a powercord into my shoulder bag without doing *something* feels like I'm wrestling a 8' long grass snake into a sack.
Solution:
I use a cheap but very sturdy ratchet cable clamp I got at a hardware store. They come in packages and a ton of different sizes, including giant ones that can secure garden hoses etc. See: http://www.cableclamp.com/Sea-Clamp-Information.html
Another nice benefit: Once unwrapped, I reset the clamp onto my power supply cord and just let it hang out there. It has the effect of marking my power supply as uniquely mine. Nobody's walked off with mine since using this clamp. Hadn't really appreciated that side effect when I first started using it.
