Bagan Globalized Sand-painting
Submitted by Zach Hyman
This painting done with colored sand glued to canvas was commissioned by a Dutch tourist, who saw it in a book in his hotel that was published in Japanese about Indian art. In our globalized world, an example of the distance culture can travel and the new forms it can take as it is filtered through new ways of representation and media (such as colored sand and glue). Also, an example of how evolving expectations and expanded markets have altered the nature of a once-impermanent art form.
